CheMagic Demonstration Video: Acidic Oxide
Acidic Oxide: In this ACIDIC OXIDE chem demo video, match heads are burned generating sulfur dioxide which forms sulfurous acid when dissolved in water. This is a rapid hydration and is illustrated by the rapid disappearance of the red basic phenolphthalein color. The difference between the kinetics of carbon dioxide hydration (shown in the latter part of the Basic Oxide chem demo video) and sulfur dioxide hydration is interesting.
