CheMagic Demonstration Video: Acidic Oxide
Acidic Oxide: In this ACIDIC OXIDE video, match heads are burned generating sulfur dioxide which forms sulfurous acid when dissolved in water. This is a rapid hydration and is illustrated by the rapid disappearance of the red basic phenolphthalein color. The difference between the kinetics of carbon dioxide hydration (shown in the latter part of the Basic Oxide video) and sulfur dioxide hydration is interesting. For a more complete discussion see: C.
